Red Light Therapy for Face and Body: What's the Difference?

Roodlichttherapie voor gezicht en lichaam: wat is het verschil? — bestaande productfoto van 4-in-1 Roodlichttherapiemasker – Gezicht & Nek

Red light therapy is used for both the face and larger body surfaces. However, that does not mean that every device is equally practical for both situations. The difference lies mainly in surface area, positioning, ease of use, and the way the light dose is administered.

For the face

For the face, a mask is a direct solution. It follows the contours of the face and can therefore easily become part of a regular routine. With a mask, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and not increase the duration of use yourself.

An example is the LED Red Light Therapy Mask for Face & Neck.

For the body

A larger body area requires a different practical approach. A panel can cover a larger area, while a belt is targeted and portable. The choice therefore depends on how much surface area you want to treat and how you want to perform the routine.

Why surface area is important

A device that works well for the face is not automatically the most practical choice for a larger body area. For larger surfaces, distance, positioning, and treatment time become extra important. With a panel, a small change in distance can affect the light intensity on the skin.

Same technology, different application

Red light therapy uses specific parts of the light spectrum. Many devices combine red light, such as 630nm or 660nm, with near-infrared light, for example 830nm or 850nm. Which combination is present varies per device.

What is a logical choice?

For a facial routine, compactness is often important. For a larger body area, coverage can be a higher priority. For a specific spot, a portable device can be practical. There is no universal winner: the best form is the form that matches the area and routine for which you actually use the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a face mask also be used for the body?

Use a device according to the manufacturer's application and instructions. A face mask is designed around the face and is not automatically a substitute for a larger body device.

Is a panel automatically stronger?

Not necessarily. Devices differ in specifications and light intensity. Look at the full specifications and usage distance.
